The Phases of an Orthodontic Treatment

Active Phase: During the active phase of the treatment process, you will have braces applied to your teeth or wear a series of Invisalign retainers to gradually move your teeth into proper position. It is important to make regular visits with your orthodontist during the active phase to make any necessary adjustments to your orthodontic appliances.
Retention: After your braces have been removed or you have completed the last phase of the Invisalign system, your orthodontist will create a custom retainer to keep your teeth from shifting back into their original positions. You will want to adhere to your orthodontist’s guidelines and wear your retainers for the specified amount of time per day so that your jawbone can reform and stabilize your newly realigned teeth.
