Let's face it: A smile is an important personal and professional asset, and having clean, white teeth makes for a brighter smile. One way to achieve a bright and beautiful smile is with teeth whitening. Zoom! teeth whitening is one of the top professional techniques used by dentists.
Why Whiten Teeth?
According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, almost every adult believes that a smile is an important social asset, and about three-fourths of adults believe an unattractive smile can hurt a person in career advancement. There are many reasons why teeth become discolored, but apart from age, use of fluoride and certain antibiotics top the list. Your dentist can work with you to diagnose the cause of discoloration and help determine the best method and product to bring your smile back where it belongs.
How Zoom! Works
Your dentist applies Zoom! teeth whitening at his or her office while you're in the chair. Using LED technology to accelerate the bleaching process means nearly instant results. This helps break down the bleach and allow oxygen to enter your teeth's enamel and dentin, bleaching the stained areas. The bleaching gel stays on your teeth for about 15 minutes. It doesn't affect your teeth's structure.
Usually, a dental hygienist gives your teeth a thorough cleaning before the Zoom! whitening procedure begins. The entire Zoom! procedure takes about 45 minutes or less; you can relax in the chair while the whitener works. After the whitening procedure, the staff will brush your teeth with a special paste or gel to make them less sensitive. Your dentist also will give you a kit to use at home for any needed touch-ups.
Trying It at Home
Dentists generally advise against most over-the-counter whitening treatments because they use strong chemicals. Professional whitening generally is safer and more effective, as are home-based methods when used under your dentist's direction. Zoom! recently began offering a take-home kit, along with the maintenance kit; both are dispensed by dentists.
